At present, there are 3 national-level R & D institutions, 19 provincial-level R & D institutions, 68 municipal-level R & D institutions, and 2 academician workstations in Weifang Binhai District, which undertake 11 national-level science and technology projects, 20 provincial-level projects, and 21 municipal-level projects. Among them, Shandong Tianwei Membrane Technology Co., Ltd. undertakes the "large-scale preparation and application technology of membrane materials for acid and alkali recovery" included in the national "863" plan, "Small and medium-sized electrodialysis seawater desalination systems" can directly convert seawater into drinking water. Weifang Lianxing New Materials Co., Ltd.'s high-temperature calcined coke waste heat utilization technology won the "Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress Award". In addition, the coastal area has also increased energy-saving transformation efforts. In 2015, enterprises were organized to carry out 25 key energy-saving technological transformation projects, which can save more than 30000 tons of standard coal annually. These new projects and new technologies have further lengthened the circular industry chain and enhanced the development level of circular economy.
